This is an example of the 2nd variation of the multiball loading. The projectile consists of a brass jacket that has 4 longitudinal slits and 6 stacked lead cylinders. The jacket is open at both ends and designed to come apart after firing. The load has a reduced charge of propellant that is kept in place by a cotton wad.
It was used as a guard or riot control load.
The headstamp of this round is C.A. B-41 (which is raised within the annular groove of the base).
