Engels Collectibles Cartridge Auction

September 7

Engel’s Collectibles was created in 2001. There was a perceived need to have a company that catered to all levels of collectors, from the beginner to the most advanced. With that in mind, the surplus of several collectors was gathered together, along with the raiding of the “goody box” of Victor Engel, and Auction #1, 20 October 2001, was created.

There were 859 lots in that first telephone auction, and some of the high-lites were: .55/.303 Canadian Boys, .44 Henry Merwin cone base, .46 FA rimfire proof, and a W.R.A.Co. .50-140 Express.

Subsequent auctions have been held each year thereafter, with a number of notable cartridges being purchased. The highest price paid to date was $4300 for a .450 Gardner-Gatling with a Pomeroy Explosive bullet from World War One. However it is the philosophy of the company to offer collector’s ammunition from $5 and up so that all ‘bullet’ enthusiasts can add specimens at all price levels. Thousands of variations have been acquired over the years to fill in ‘holes’ in collectors’ drawers.

Each issue has been dedicated, with the exception of #1, to a collector who has gone on to the big cartridge show in the sky. Beginning with Auction #7, current members of this unique fraternity will be featured on both the cover and a second page. It is time to get to know more about those we see at ammunition shows around the world.

As with all successful companies, Engel’s Collectibles has evolved over time, improving and modifying to meet the needs of its clientele. We listen to our customers and make changes when they come up with better ideas. For that we thank you for making us a better organization.
